Where did the name Mikenauk come from? The original meaning from the Indigenous people is somewhat obscure. The similarity to "Michigan" may mean it refers to the turtle, a native totem symbol. Others think it refers to the sandy pine flats.
How long has the club been in existence? Informal sessions began in the late 1980's and formal affiliation with the Midwest and American Federations began in 1989. We are also involved with the Michigan Geology and Gemcraft Society (MGAGS) and have twice hosted its annual, two-day, state seminar in June.
